SITUATION



A software program has been developed that will aid the technician in the search for information regarding BMW special tools. Minimum system



requirements for installing the Special Tool CD are:



Windows 95 16MB RAM



Pentium processor 90MHz 175MB of hard drive space



The database will be updated approximately 4 times a year depending on the quantity of special tools to be distributed.



TOOL INFORMATION WINDOWS



The main operating screen contains the following tool information.



PN:



Displays the complete tool part number.



Description:



Displays the selected tools description.



Model:



Displays the selected tools model information.



SIB:



Displays Service Information Bulletin Number.



Notes:



Displays additional tool information such as how the tool is used.



Auto Ship: An "X" in this field indicates that the tool was shipped via the BMW automatic tool shipment program. No "X" indicates it was an



optional tool.



Illustration Window:



An illustration of the tool is displayed. A few tools are missing illustrations. These illustrations will be added in future software updates.



TOOL SEARCH PARAMETERS



Five paths to search for tool information are included in the software. They are:

Find PN:



Enter the last 7 digits of the BMW part number (Example "001 410").



Find Group # :



Searches only for tools in the specified group. If you are looking for all tools in group 11, enter "11". This search will yield all tools with the 6th &



7th digits matching that number.



Find Description:



Enter a word or phrase. For example if you enter the word "reset", all of the tools with the word reset in the description will be displayed.



Find Model:



Find any model containing the digits entered. Example "E32", "M73" etc.



Find All:



Finds all models with the "Model" description listed as "All".



NAVIGATION BUTTONS



There are five additional buttons that assist the user in navigating the software. They are:



First Tool:



Displays first tool of the database search.



Previous Tool:



Displays the previous tool in the database search.



Next Tool:



Displays the next tool in the database search.



Last Tool:



Displays the last tool in the database search.



Refresh Screen:



If a search yields no results, the window will become blank. Click on the "Refresh screen" button to return to the main screen.



Print All:



Print a chart listing every tool currently in the BMW Special Tools database. Note: The Chart is ~ 30 pages long and may take some time to print.



Print Page:



Prints information and related graphic for the current Tool.



Note:



A separate page will be printed for each model version that is attributed to that tool. This will be fixed in future versions.



Exit:



Selecting this button will allow you to exit the program and will automatically shut down Access 97.



INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS



If you wish to install the program on your hard drive, follow these instructions.



1. Exit all other Windows applications before beginning installation.



2. Insert the CD into your CD ROM drive



3. Run "F:\Setup.exe" . "F" should be changed to your CD ROM drive letter.



4. Follow the on screen instructions



5. When asked for the type of installation choose "Custom" and select "All Options".



6. When installation is complete start by selecting "start", "Programs", BMW Special Tools", BMW Special Tools Database".



If you wish to run the program from your CD ROM drive and not load it on your hard drive, follow these instructions.



1. Place the CD in your CD ROM drive.



2. In explorer double click on "user.mdb"

Instrument Cluster - No Seat Belt Warning after Coding

NO Seat Belt Warning in Instrument Cluster after Coding.



MODEL



E46 - (3 Series). Vehicles produced from 9/99



SITUATION



When using DIS V20.0 or 20.1 for coding, the seat belt warning in the instrument cluster will be switched off any time the coding operation changes



the ZCS code.



Coding will cause the ZCS code to change under the following circumstances:



^ Replacement of an existing vehicle module with a later version of that module.



^ Retrofitting a retailer installed vehicle option, e.g. DWA



CAUSE



Coding error in DIS CD V20.0 and 20.1. The problem will be corrected with DIS CD 21



PROCEDURE



Use DIS or MoDiC with DIS CD V19.1. If necessary, reinstall DIS CD V19.1 on a single DIS or MoDiC.



NOTE: For all other diagnostic, coding and programming operations, CD V20.1 MUST BE USED



1. Select "Coding/Programming"



2. Select "ZCS coding"



3. Select "E46 Series"



4. Select "Kombi"



5. The screen displays "Kombi has been selected?" Answer "Yes".



6. The screen displays the VIN with the question "Chassis # change?" Answer "No".



7. All (3) lines of ZCS code are displayed with the question "Change?" Answer "Yes".



8. The GM line of code is then displayed with the question "Selection correct?" Answer "Yes"



9. The SA line of code is then displayed with the question "Selection correct?". Answer "Yes"

10. The VN line of code is then displayed with the question "Selection correct?". Answer "No"



11. Using the keypad displayed on the screen, overwrite the VN line with a new VN line: 00000896FBS Answer "Yes" to the question "Selection



correct?"



12. All (3) lines of ZCS code are displayed with the question "Change?". Check VN line to confirm the correct input Answer "Yes" if correct.



Answer "No" if not correct, and repeat ZCS code entry from Step 8.
