Navigation Satellite Timer Reset on August 22, 1999



MODEL:



All with GPS



Situation:



Customers may complain of inaccuracies when using their BMW navigation system on August 22, 1999.



Cause:



The navigation (GPS) satellites will reset their internal timer/counter.

Correction:



On a customer complaint basis, explained this situation tot he customer. No diagnosis or parts replacement is required. The BMW navigation



systems uses various inputs to maintain the vehicle location. During the reset, the communication between the satellite and the vehicle will be lost



(similar to driving in a tunnel or under tress.) The BMW navigation system will then automatically establish communications with the satellites. This



process will last approximately 13 - 25 minutes.

SUBJECT:



"ALERT" Message on the Radio Display



MODEL:



All with RDS radio



Situation:



Customers may complain that "ALERT" is displayed on the radio. The radio station can still be heard but the station can not be changed.



Cause:



RDS warning transmission (alert) message from a local radio station. Radio stations equipped with the RDS transmitter may erroneously send the



"Alert" message due to a malfunction of the RDS transmitter.



The radio will continue to function correctly when the "Alert" signal is no longer transmitted.



Correction:



Do not replace the radio. Inform the customer that the problem is caused by a local radio station RDS transmission error. The local station



transmitting this alert should be contacted and informed of the situation.
