NEW FEATURES
Car Information Computer (CIC)
All 2010 Model Year (MY) 5 and 6 Series receive a new integrated CIC system as standard equipment, which replaces the Car Communication Computer (CCC). CIC is recognizable by a high-definition 8.8" LCD screen on the instrument panel. If the vehicle is equipped with Navigation, map information is now stored in the CIC's hard drive, which eliminates the previous separate DVD. For more information on the CIC, refer to the Technical Training Express section of the 8/08 Service Round Table at BMW Centernet's Group University, video course VO548.
17-Digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
2 minor changes take effect with the 2010 MY automobiles, pertaining to the entire automobile industry.
●
The 7th character is no longer a number, but a letter. The 7th character is the last of the 4 digits comprising the BMW AG model code. Instead of a "3" for most US models in the past, for 2010 this space will utilize the letter "C". Certain 3 Series Sedans which had "7" in this location prior to MY 2010 will now have the letter "G".
●
The 10th digit (model year identifier) will no longer be the same number as the last digit of the MY. The new format will utilize the letter "A" for MY 2010, then "B" for 2011, etc.
760LI (F02)
This new flagship based on the long-wheelbase 7 Series (F02) utilizes an all-new N74 12-cylinder engine with two turbochargers. The engine block's 60° V-angle with its narrower intake valley does not allow placement of the turbochargers within the intake valley. Therefore, the N74 intake arrangement is of conventional design, in which the intake valves are located towards the center of the engine, and the exhaust valves at the outer side of the cylinder head. This contrasts with the 750i because the N63 engine's 90° V-angle yields a wider valley with sufficient room for the two turbochargers. Exhaust gases on each side of the N74 engine flow through 2 pairs of 3- into-1 manifolds into a single-scroll turbocharger. A low-restriction catalyst located immediately behind the turbo allows for quick catalyst warm-up and peak operating efficiency.
Other features of the 760Li:

Two DME MSD87-12 control units acting as "master/slave", in which the master unit provides the reference data information for engine operation; as well as acting as the main communicator to the vehicle.

8-speed fully automatic transmission with Steptronic, designation 8HP90. Even though the housing is no larger than that of the 6-speed 6HP26 TU of the 750Li, it accommodates 2 additional gears with minimum weight increase. The 8HP90 features minimized torque converter slip (6th gear is direct drive with no slip), maximum internal efficiency with only 2 clutches open at a time, and reduced shift times which all contribute to approx. 5% less fuel consumption than the 6HP26.

5 SERIES GRAN TURISMO (F07)
BMW is introducing an all-new variation of the 5 Series, with the internal engineering designation F07. The Gran Turismo adapts a coupe-like sloping roof extended to a full fastback style. A large tailgate with two modes of operation adds practical utility.
The traditional European term Gran Turismo (Grand Touring) was first applied by Italian car makers in the 1950s when they combined the performance, handling, and style of a 2- seat sports car with luxury and comfort amenities suitable for long distance, high- speed journeys. Gran Turismo Sedans would also have ample luggage capacity for all occupants.
Some key features of the 5 Series Gran Turismo:

2-piece tailgate with two releases, which can open only the trunk portion (rear window remains in place) or the entire tailgate for maximum access

A new inline 6-cylinder N55 "Twin Power" engine is utilized in the 535i Gran Turismo. It is based on the N54 all-aluminum engine from other 2010 models, but has been redesigned for improved fuel economy and throttle response. The two single-scroll turbochargers on the N54 engine are replaced by a single unit on the N55. Operating efficiency of the N55's single turbo is increased by its twin-scroll housing design, referring to two separate passages for the exhaust gases inside the turbo housing. The turbocharger impeller vanes receive exhaust pulses twice as frequently as on a single- scroll turbo, better maintaining their rotational speed. This virtually eliminates any inertial lag. "Twin Power" refers to this twin-scroll design.
The N55's third generation of Valvetronic (VVT3) throttle-less intake technology, together with high precision direct fuel injection, contributes to improved engine response, as well as increased fuel efficiency. The N55 has the same power ratings as the N54 engine: 300hp and 300 lb.ft of torque.
QUALITY CERTIFICATION 1 (QC1)
A new QC1 form has been developed for the 2010 models covered in this bulletin: SD92- 392. The updated form with print date 8/09 adds the 1, 3, 7 Series; and Z4 Roadster to the 5 and 6 Series.
Changes compared to 2009:
●
Delivery check, Salesperson: It is no longer necessary to install the Navigation Map DVD when the vehicle is equipped with this system, because this information is already contained in the CIC.
●
Navigation (option 609): ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application) will prompt the technician to activate the Navigation map, which requires obtaining an enabling code. Refer to SI B65 30 09 and B09 04 09 .
1 And 3 Series Except M3
When programming the radio and checking its function, note that the Basic Stereo Sound system is now standard equipment. The amplifier and some speakers have been deleted compared to the standard equipment HiFi Stereo Sound system of 2009 MY. However, the upgraded premium HiFi system ("Logic7" on 3 Series) continues to be available as an

option.
NOTE: All M3 versions continue to be equipped with the HiFi Stereo Sound system
as standard equipment, the same system as 2009 MY.
5 Series Gran Turismo

Utilize QC1 form SD92-392, print date 8/09.
●
A set of four floor mats is provided as standard equipment. Install the floor mats into the Sedan, ensuring that the mat for the driver's footwell is properly anchored using the carpet anchors supplied with the mat set.
●
The frameless windows must be initialized after deactivating transport mode. Use the same procedure as on 3 Series Coupes (E92).

Reimbursement of the BMW Pre-Delivery Inspection (Quality Certification I) on 2010 vehicles will be via submission of a warranty claim when the work is completed. For more information, refer to B00 01 07 .

Reimbursement for performing the QCI on BMW company vehicles (of any model year) must still be requested by submitting a claim through DCS, using the Spot Delivery codes as listed below:

NOTE: BMW company vehicles delivered to field personnel may have already
received a full QCI at the Vehicle Distribution Center (VDC) which serves your region. This should be evident upon arrival at your center by the following:

The absence of the usual protective seat and door panel covers, and the battery main-disconnect cable.
●
The service windshield wipers already having been installed.
●
The Monroney label not being affixed to the window, etc.
●
VDCs affix a small orange-colored label onto the center console near the transmission selector lever which reads "QC1 already done at VDC!" If this label is found, remove it prior to delivery to the employee.
Please verify that the QC1 has already been performed at a VDC on a specific vehicle by contacting your regional Distribution Manager with the chassis number.
IMPORTANT: As with all work that is reimbursed by BMWNA, the repair order, time
recording and record keeping requirements outlined in the Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual must be strictly observed.
