SUBJECT
M57Y - MIL Is ON with DDE Internal Fault 4CAF Stored
MODEL
E90 with the M57Y engine produced up to 5/31/2010
E70 with the M57Y engine produced up to 6/7/2010
SITUATION
The "MIL" or Service Engine Soon lamp comes on intermittently with the engine in failsafe operation. The engine will only operate up to 1,500
RPM and lacks power. The following fault is stored in the DDE:
^ 4CAF: DDE control module internal
CAUSE
DDE software application error
CORRECTION
Do not replace the DDE.
Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.38.0 or a more recent version.
Vehicle integration (new): E89X-10-06-500 or later
Vehicle integration (new): E070-10-06-500 or later
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
