M57Y Engine: Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) Replacement Procedures
MODEL
E70 with the M57Y engine produced to 10/2009
E90 with the M57Y engine produced to 9/2009
SITUATION
After diagnosis due to a Service Engine Soon lamp being on, it was determined that the SCR catalyst needs to be replaced. The new SCR catalyst is
an improved design that also requires programming of the DDE via the conversion path.
Note:
This conversion is only required on 2009 MY vehicles.
PROCEDURE
Replace the SCR catalyst and the front pipe mixer. After replacement, perform a programming session with the current version of ISTA/P. Before
completing the measures plan, select "Vehicle" from the top menu and select "Conversions". Next, select "Conversion, data compatibility catalytic
converter". After selecting the conversion, continue with the measures plan and reprogram the vehicle.
Note:
When the ISTA system message displays:
Battery voltage only "XX.XX" V. Please connect charger.
Please note the displayed battery voltage reading in the repair order comments section.
