The Horns Create a Droning Noise When in Use

F01, F02 (7 Series)

Vehicles produced to October 7, 2011



SITUATION



When the horns are used, a droning noise can be heard coming from the front of the vehicle.



CAUSE



The horns are riveted to the front bumper support. Faulty riveting creates the droning noise.



PROCEDURE



Complete the following procedures for both horns on the front bumper supports.



1. In order to gain access to both horns, refer to ISTA Repair Instructions:



"61 33 050 Removing and installing/replacing left fanfare horn"



"61 33 055 Removing and installing/replacing right fanfare horn"



2. Drill out the rivet holding each horn in place, and remove the horns.

3. Enlarge the hole on the bumper support to a diameter of 6.8 mm for each side.



4. Enlarge the hole on the horn bracket to a diameter of 8 mm for each side.



5. Mount the horns to the bumper supports using a new self-tapping screw. Torque to 5Nm.



6. Reinstall the previously removed bumper parts as per step 1, ISTA Repair Instructions.
