This Service Information bulletin supersedes Advance S.I. B61 01 01 dated March 2001. The content of the Service Information is unchanged.

SUBJECT

Windows Drop up to 2 Inches when Unlocking Car

MODEL

E38 (7 Series), E39 (5 Series)

SITUATION

With "Selective Unlock" Active" in Vehicle and Key Memory, when pressing the unlock request button on the key for the second time, the front

windows may drop by up to 2 inches.

The problem occurs only if the time interval between the first and second unock request is 1.4 to 1.8 seconds.

CAUSE

A software error causes the windows to momentarily activate "Comfort Open".

CORRECTION

Do not replace any components.

In case of a customer complaint, offer the customer the following two alternatives:

1. Explain to the customer how the problem occurs, and suggest that the customer, when unlocking the car, delays the second unlock request so

that the time interval between first and second unlock request is greater than 1.8 seconds.

2. In Car and Key Memory, set "Convenient Opening RC" to "Not active". Note that with this selection, convenience opening of the windows

and sunroof using the remote control will no longer be possible. However, the customer will still be able to convenience open the windows and

sunroof by turning the key in the lock.
