SUBJECT:

Delayed Audio Sound/No Audio Display on Vehicles with Nav System

MODEL:

E38, E39, E46, E53 with Nav

219

SITUATION

Customer may complain of the following condition when the vehicle is started:

-- The audio sound may be delayed (approximately 10 to 15 seconds), and the audio source information (radio station frequency) is not

automatically displayed on the on-board monitor screen. Instead, the main menu remains on the screen.

-- In some cases, it is possible to have the audio screen displayed (with a 10 second delay), but instead of radio station frequency information, the

orange horizontal line appears in the upper part of the screen.

This may occur if the radio is left ON when the ignition is turned OFF.

CAUSE

I-Bus communication (between the radio, DSP amplifier, BMTM board monitor controls, and NAV computer) is momentarily disrupted by the

excessive voltage drop when the vehicle is started. The situation is created by an undercharged battery condition (battery voltage below 12.15V).

CORRECTION

Check battery condition (perform load test). Fully recharge battery. Do not replace any audio or navigation components.
