Say Hello To The Porsche Taycan: Mission E Has A Brand New Name
As the Porsche Mission E continues to get closer to production, we figured the name Porsche has used for its first fully electric model was already set in stone. Instead, Porsche has announced that the production Mission E will actually use a new name: Taycan. Roughly translated, the word means "lively young horse" in German, which likely references the horse in the Porsche crest. "Our new electric sports car is strong and dependable; it's a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and that epitomizes freedom," Porsche chief Oliver Blume said in a statement.

The Taycan has been one of the most hotly anticipated cars of the decade, and this new name only makes us even more excited. The most powerful variant will use two synchronous electric motors producing more than 600 horsepower. Porsche expects the Taycan to do 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds, and have a driving range of more than 300 miles on a single charge. There will likely be different versions of the Taycan, including one based on the Mission E Cross Turismo Concept. The Taycan will be Porsche's first all-electric model, which will be followed up by more electrified cars. By 2025, 25% of all Porsche cars will be fully-electric or hybrid.

The name change from Mission E to Taycan makes a lot of sense. Mission E sounded cool, but it didn't share much connection with the rest of the Porsche lineup. The name Taycan will fit in nicely with the Macan, Cayenne, Cayman, Boxster, and Panamera, while the 911 retains in its own unique numeric naming scheme.

This Is The Brand New BMW 3 Series Before You’re Supposed To See It
The all-new BMW 3 Series will be officially unveiled tomorrow at the Paris Auto Show, but thanks to leaked images taken from BMW’s online configurator we’ve managed to get a revealing look at BMW’s sports sedan undisguised before its world debut. Images posted by BimmerPost show the new 3 Series in all its glory from every possible angle showing a range of models including the range-topping M340i, the M Sport Package, the Sport Line, and a variety of interior configurations. As expected, it essentially looks like a shrunken version of the new 5 Series, but that’s no bad thing.

The G20 3 Series looks more aggressive than its predecessor, sporting a larger grille, redesigned headlights available either as LEDs or laser lights and a new double crease down the side. At the back are slim taillights and a subtle boot-lid spoiler. Four exterior colors are shown in the configurator images: Dravit Grey, Tansanit Blue II, Citrin Black II and Vermont Bronze. Along with the Portimao Blue.
We also get a look at the interior, which includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch central touchscreen display, new sports seats, new climate controls, and new steering wheels. From the images, it’s a significant improvement over the outgoing model.

Under the skin, the new 3 Series rides on BMW’s new CLAR architecture, which also underpins the 5 Series and X3 SUV. In terms of powertrains, the new 3 Series is expected to use a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder delivering around 360 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Full details will be revealed tomorrow at the Paris Auto Show, so stay tuned.

3 Brand New BMW Models To Debut At 2018 LA Auto Show
We’re now less than two weeks away from the Paris Auto Show, which will host several significant car debuts including the new BMW 3 Series. After Paris, the next event on the motor show calendar is the LA Auto Show, which kicks off on November 26. Organizers have announced we can expect more than 50 global and North American debuts at the show.
No specific debuts were announced, but it’s been confirmed that BMW will present three brand new models at the event as well as a new concept. These are in addition to the North American debut of the new BMW X5, which will be presented alongside the new 8 Series coupe and Z4 M40i Roadster.

Nothing has been officially confirmed, but it seems likely the BMW 8 Series Convertible will make its world debut in LA since prototypes have already been spotted practically naked. The X3 M and X4 M could also break cover, as BMW recently teased these new performance-focused SUVs.
Other debuts are expected from Volkswagen, who will present a new electric concept, as well as special editions of the GTI and Beetle. Presumably, these will be the Beetle Final Edition and the Golf GTI Rabbit Edition. Toyota will also showcase five new vehicles, including hybrid and special edition models, while Subaru will have multiple model debuts, including a plug-in hybrid. We can also expect to see new model debuts from Nissan, Porsche and Volvo, which suggests the new 992-generation Porsche 911 will make its world debut in LA rather than Paris.

“As the nation’s number one green vehicle market, it is fitting that nearly one-third of the debuts slated for this year’s AutoMobility LA are electric or alternative fuel,” said Lisa Kaz, President and CEO of AutoMobility LA and the LA Auto Show. “It is exciting to see how many volume and luxury brands are offering greener mobility options for environmentally-conscious Southern Californians.”

Audi Accused Of Installing Cheat Devices In Brand New A3 Diesels
Try as it may, Volkswagen seems to be having an incredibly hard time staying out of the media and regulatory spotlight that began to scrutinize it after Dieselgate broke out over a year ago. The story has gone back and forth with more plot twists emerging as new evidence is uncovered, and the latest round of that seems to focus on the Audi A3 fitted with the 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine. As German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) reports, the A3 may be harboring a cheat device installed after Dieselgate came to light.

The Audi A3 in question was refreshed eight months after the Dieselgate scandal broke out but was still outfitted with an optional diesel powerplant. It passed initial inspection by the transportation authority Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA), but subsequent testing by the Joint Research Center of the European Commission (JRC) found discrepancies in emissions that were dependent on temperature, which is an indication that there is a cheat device living somewhere in the car. When contacted about it, the KBA claimed that it had not yet completed all of the necessary tests on the diesel A3, which is odd given that it was rated in the Euro 6 class by the organization, the best possible pollutant rating a vehicle can get.
This means that the KBA either jumped the gun on the rating or that it connived with Volkswagen to give its cars a higher rating, evidencing that this whole diesel thing could go a lot deeper than we’d like to think. SZ claims that Audi has sidestepped the allegations, claiming that it cannot respond because it does not have access to the JRC’s data. "We do not have any information on the tests - neither on the mentioned measurements nor on what engine was installed in the A3 TDI mentioned. Therefore, please respect that we cannot comment on the report. However, it should be noted that different measurements from other testing institutes prove that the A3 2.0 TDI is within the legal limits of EU6,” said Volkswagen in a statement to Autocar.

If there is a defeat device installed in the A3, then European regulators will have to determine if it's of the variety that protects the engine during harsh temperatures, which is allowed by European law, or if it's one manufactured with the insidious intent of getting away with higher emissions in order to cut costs. As with the initial Dieselgate scandal, we’ll have to wait and see how this story unfolds, but you can bet that an investigation will be under way soon.
