BMW Blog says "what we can say with a high degree of confidence is that BMW M is indeed planning a more hardcore version of their M2 Competition model which is scheduled to arrive in 2020."

The outlet even claims that the car will go into production in March of 2020, giving it a one year run before the next generation M2 arrives.

Some BMW enthusiasts have been hoping for a revival of the CLS name, but BMW Blog says "many of the media, including us, have labeled the new M2 as the CSL model, in fact, the upcoming, limited super-sporty M2 will carry the M2 CS badge on its boot. This falls in line with the other CS models of the M family (M3 CS, M4 CS), so it comes as no surprise that the CS name was reserved for the M2 as well."

We would assume that the M2 CS would be a limited edition model, but BMW Blog doesn't seem to know what the production number might be. Depending on the source, this could be our confirmation that the M2 CS is on its way. BMW X8 Could Arrive By 2020 To Battle Upcoming Audi Q8

Instead it could share a few CLAR components and underpinnings with the upcoming Rolls-Royce Cullinan’s lightweight aluminum structure. In order to make the X8 relevant in its segment, BMW would also need to ensure its rear seat passengers have the same feeling of space they’d experience in the X7, meaning sufficient headroom with a roofline that dips more aggressively towards the rear end.

Expect to see a 2+2 seating arrangement only; a third-row rear bench, which is optional in the X6, won’t be offered. As far as powertrains go, the X8 will likely offer two gasoline engine options, the xDrive40i and xDrive50i, and two plug-in hybrids, the xDrive50e iPerformance and xDrive60e iPerformance. We knew it was coming. Now we know when.

Although it’s only been shown as a concept and seen in thinly disguised (and BMW-sanctioned) spy images, the upcoming BMW 8 Series and M8 are definitely happening. We also learned not long after their respective announcements and semi-reveals, that BMW was exploring the possibility of additional variants, specifically a cabrio and possibly a Gran Coupe. Today, thanks to BMW Blog, not only do we now know the 8 Series Gran Coupe is really going to be a thing, but we also have a reveal date, more or less: the third quarter of 2019.

We’ll soon start seeing some prototypes on the road and, of course, at the Nurburgring. Before the Gran Coupe arrives, however, the cabrio will launched in late 2018. The production-spec 8 Series coupe is expected next summer. It’s still a bit too early to know some of the Gran Coupe’s specifics, but we assume it’ll come powered by the coupe’s engine lineup, probably consisting of an entry-level turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. Next up is the familiar turbocharged 4.4-liter V8. The expected M860i will likely share the M760Li’s turbocharged 6.6-liter V12. Also don’t be surprised to see BMW offer the Gran Coupe with a plug-in hybrid powertrain – just like in the standard coupe and cabrio.

The big question, however, is whether BMW will offer an M8 Gran Coupe. We think it’ll happen, mainly because the engineering is literally already done and ready to go for the coupe, and also due to the fact that the outgoing M6 Gran Coupe was a solid sales success. We’ll hopefully learn more details about BMW’s 8 Series plans at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week.

BMW M Performance Diesels Arrive: M550d, X5 M50d, X6 M50d

BMW has released official details about their much anticipated M Performance diesel range.

Confirmation of BMW M diesel models has finally arrived, and just like a bus you wait a year for one and then four come at once. Each sport AWD and the tri-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six rated at 375hp and 546lb-ft of torque, but before anyone living stateside gets too excited; be warned: none are slated for the US. The BMW M Performance diesel range includes the M550d xDrive Sedan, M550d xDrive Toruing, X5 M50d and X6 M50d, with the small 'd' indicating 'diesel.'

An eight-speed automatic gearbox features in all models, while xDrive AWD comes as standard. The result is that the M550d sedan can hit 62mph in 4.7 seconds. The M550d Touring manages 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds, while the X5 M50d and X6 M50d hits 62mph in 5.4 and 5.3 seconds respectively. All have an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph. Other hallmark features you'd expect of an M Performance range include Auto Start/Stop, ECO PRO mode, M-tuned springs and dampers, bodyshell mounting, engine & transmission mounting, and Servotronic mapping for the hydraulic steering.

In addition to the M aero body kits, other styling touches include metallic grey side mirrors, trapezoidal tailpipes, 19- and 20-inch M light alloys in V-design for the M550d and double-spoke design for the X5 and X6 M50d. M model lettering features on the door sills, boot lid, and for the X5/X6 M50d on the instrument cluster and engine cover. On the inside, exclusive M sports seats with contrast stitching and embossed M logo are finished in Black Alcantara/Nappa leather on the X5/X6 and in Grey Shadow Alcantara/Cloth on the M550d.

Other highlights include a gearshift lever boasting the M logo, M leather steering wheel with shift paddles, Anthracite BMW Individual roof liner, interior trim strips in Brushed Aluminum Shadow for the X5/X6 and Aluminum Hexagon on the M550d, and interior sound design that further emphasizes the engine soundtrack. There's a host of options ranging from electrically-operated glass/panoramic sunroof to rear-seat entertainment systems, and a wide array of driver assistance systems and mobility services courtesy of the BMW ConnectedDrive such as BMW Night Vision with pedestrian recognition (M550d) and rear-view camera with Top View (X5/X6).

All four models will make their world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March, shortly followed by a market launch where in Germany they will be sold for around €80,000 to €85,000.
