After complete vehicle or DME programming (regardless of the ISTA/P version used), the following fault code(s) may occur:

2FA3 - coding missing

2FA4 - incorrect data record

The effect of these faults could be noticed as a loss of acceleration or overall performance. CAUSE

It must be ensured that following programming, neither fault code 2FA3 nor 2FA4 remains stored in the DME. Following programming, the DME fault memory and adaptations should be cleared.

Then cycle the key off and back on, and recheck the DME fault memory again. If fault code 2FA3 or 2FA4 is still present, work through the test plan in ISTA.

If programming and/or coding is recommended, start ISTA/P and select both the CAS and DME for programming and coding. Recheck to see whether the fault(s) is now able to be cleared.

If the DME needs to be replaced as a result of the diagnostics, a DME TC PuMA Case will need to be created before ordering the replacement part.

Note:

The vehicle must not be released back to the customer under any circumstances with fault code 2FA3 or 2FA4 stored in the DME. WARRANTY

Proper Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Level in SCR Reservoirs

MODEL

SITUATION

CAUSE

2010 BMW 335d Sedan (E90) L6-3.0L DSL Turbo (M57Y) Page 285

Level measurement strategy of the SCR system

INFORMATION

The level sensors in the passive and active SCR tanks do not continuously measure the DEF level. There are defined measurement points in the level

sensor that the DDE control module uses to calculate the DEF level.

If the DEF level in the active tank (1) is above the full point (A) of the level sensor, the fluid level reading will be at 100% (full). Once the DEF level

is below the full point of the level sensor, but still above the warning point (B), the level reading will be 66%. The warning scenario displayed to the

customer will start to count down the mileage to "no start condition" when the DEF level is below the warning point (B), and above the empty point

(C) of the sensor.

RECOMMENDATION

Do not overfill the SCR system. Filling the tanks up to the top of their respective filler necks will cause the DEF to leak out of the tank's vent system,

and will possibly damage the tanks and internal components. All active and passive tanks are filled to the correct level at the factory. A tank level

reading of 66% on a new vehicle requires no further action.

Note:

Consult SI B16 03 10 if a low exhaust fluid warning is displayed in a new vehicle with low mileage (5,000 miles or less).

Third Generation Tire Pressure Monitor System (RDC)

MODEL

E90, E91, E92, E93 (3 Series) from 9/09 production

INFORMATION

As of September 2009 production, a new generation Tire Pressure Monitor System has been introduced for all 3 Series models. Although the basic

operation of the system is similar to the previous version, there are several key differences between the two systems.

2010 BMW 335i Coupe (E92) L6-3.0L Turbo (N54) Page 317

The new system consists of five components:

^ One central antennae with an integrated control module (5) mounted in the right rear wheel arch

^ Four wheel electronics (1-4) mounted at the base of each tire valve.

Central antennae with integrated control module

The control module and central antennae have been combined in a single housing. This new control module has the ability to send request for

information to each of the 4 wheel electronics via a low frequency single (125 kHz). This eliminates the need for separate transmitters, as used for

previous systems.

New style wheel electronics

2010 BMW 335i Coupe (E92) L6-3.0L Turbo (N54) Page 318

The wheel electronics consist of plastic housing with integrated circuitry. The following items are contained within the wheel electronics:

^ Pressure sensor

^ Temperature sensor

^ Acceleration sensor

^ Transmitter/receiver unit

^ Self-diagnosis controller

^ Battery

The following points should be considered when diagnosing and/or servicing the system:

^ The system components are not interchangeable or compatible with previous versions.

^ The type of wheel electronic fitted can only be determined via visual inspection.

^ The detection of low tire pressure and the subsequent warning is similar to the previous design.

^ The reset procedure has changed.

Special Note for Reset Procedure

After initiating a reset, the vehicle must be driven for a period longer than 12 minutes with a vehicle speed which exceeds 19 mph (~30 km/h).

Tire Monitor System - 3rd Generation System Information

SUBJECT

Third Generation Tire Pressure Monitor System (RDC)

MODEL

E90, E91, E92, E93 (3 Series) from 9/09 production

INFORMATION

As of September 2009 production, a new generation Tire Pressure Monitor System has been introduced for all 3 Series models. Although the basic

operation of the system is similar to the previous version, there are several key differences between the two systems.

The new system consists of five components:

^ One central antennae with an integrated control module (5) mounted in the right rear wheel arch

^ Four wheel electronics (1-4) mounted at the base of each tire valve.

Central antennae with integrated control module

2010 BMW 335d Sedan (E90) L6-3.0L DSL Turbo (M57Y) Page 288

The control module and central antennae have been combined in a single housing. This new control module has the ability to send request for

information to each of the 4 wheel electronics via a low frequency single (125 kHz). This eliminates the need for separate transmitters, as used for

previous systems.

New style wheel electronics

After initiating a reset, the vehicle must be driven for a period longer than 12 minutes with a vehicle speed which exceeds 19 mph (~30 km/h).

of the cooling system and also erratic operation of systems utilizing cooling system temperature values. A special tool has been developed that

ensures complete evacuation of all air in the system prior to filling, and also validates if the system is free of leaks prior to filling with coolant.

PROCEDURE

The Coolant Vacuum Charger tool P/N 81 39 2 152 470 (SI B04 34 08) must be used after completing major cooling systems repairs, or when the
