Buttons on the iDrive Controller Not Working

All equipped with the iDrive controller Vehicles produced from August 31, 2004 SITUATION





The buttons on the iDrive controller are not working. CAUSE





The button(s) on the iDrive controller mechanically stick. PROCEDURE





Do not replace parts for the situation described in this Service Information bulletin.









Remove the controller from the center console (electrical connection still connected), and retest the operation of all the buttons.







If the buttons work properly when the controller is removed, reinstall the controller in the center console. Ensure that the controller is fitted properly into the center console, without any tension. Retest the button operation. If the buttons still do not work properly, proceed to procedure steps 3 and 4.







Perform diagnosis using ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application). Complete any test plans related to iDrive controller faults, if stored.







If no faults are stored, perform and follow the recommendations in the "CON: Control button and additional buttons" test plan. The test plan can be found under the following path: "Function structure/Body/Operation/Controller/Control knob and additional buttons".

SITUATION



The buttons on the iDrive controller are not working.



CAUSE



The button(s) on the iDrive controller mechanically stick.



PROCEDURE



Do not replace parts for the situation described in this Service Information bulletin.



1. Remove the controller from the center console (electrical connection still connected), and retest the operation of all the buttons.



2. If the buttons work properly when the controller is removed, reinstall the controller in the center console. Ensure that the controller is fitted



properly into the center console, without any tension. Retest the button operation. If the buttons still do not work properly, proceed to procedure



steps 3 and 4.



3. Perform diagnosis using ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application). Complete any test plans related to iDrive controller faults, if stored.
