Campaign - Retrofitting Of Protective Hose On SCR Line

SI B16 13 10

Fuel Systems

February 2011

Technical Service

PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES THE NEXT TIME THEY

ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS AND PRIOR TO RETAIL DELIVERY.

SUBJECT

Service Action: E90 M57Y Retrofitting of Protective Hose on SCR Line

MODEL

E90 with the M57Y diesel engine produced from 2/18/2010 to 10/1/2010

SITUATION

The protective covering is missing from the SCR (Selective Catalyst Reduction) line.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves E90 vehicles with the M57Y diesel engine which were produced from 2/18/2010 to 10/1/2010.

In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action completed or is affected by this Service Action first check the B-pillar

label for code number 585. If code number 585 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 585 has not been

punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the

response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

PROCEDURE

1. Locate the SCR line where it runs next to the driver's side fuel tank strap (1). Install protective hose (P/N 16 19 7 301 040) over the SCR line and

secure both ends with cable ties.

2. Remove the four indicated clip nuts and screws from the front center engine insulation shield (1) and replace with four new clip nuts (P/N 41 35 7

060 601) and Torx screws (P/N 07 14 7 293 277). Torque the screws to 5Nm.

PARTS INFORMATION

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Service Action has been assigned code number 585. After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-395) and:

A. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);

B. Punch out code number 585 (2), printed on the label; and

C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on

top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.

Instruments - Service Interval Coding Limits

SI B62 06 99

Instruments

February 2011

Technical Service

This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B62 06 99 dated January 2000.

[NEW] designates changes to this revision

SUBJECT

Service Interval Coding Limits (SIA III) for 2000 Model Year Vehicles

MODEL

All, except M Roadster and Coupe

SITUATION

The SIA III method of calculating service intervals has been progressively introduced and now applies to all BMW models except the M Roadster

and Coupe. Unlike SIA II, which calculates service intervals based on the parameters of engine speed, engine temperature and distance traveled, SIA

III calculates service intervals based on fuel used.

PROCEDURE

[NEW] Using ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application), the SIA data coded into a vehicle (the "Coded Inspection Limit" [in gallons]) can be

printed and attached to the repair order. This is required in cases when the instrument cluster indicates that scheduled maintenance is required, but

the vehicle has lower than expected mileage. The most likely cause is either an aggressive driving style or that the vehicle is used in heavy city

traffic. In a small number of cases, it may be that the SIA data was incorrectly coded. In this case, the instrument cluster must be recoded to correct

the service interval coding limit coded into the vehicle.

[NEW] The display of SIA data in ISTA also shows "Stored Consumption". "Stored Consumption" (in gallons) shows the amount of fuel consumed

in the "Coded inspection limit" (in gallons). When the two numbers become equal, the instrument cluster indicates that service is required. When a

"Service reset" is performed, "Stored Consumption" is reset to zero.

[NEW] To access the vehicle SIA data, use ISTA and follow the vehicle selection below:

MODEL

SITUATION

The Service Engine Soon lamp (MW) is illuminated. Fault Code 46B7, Swirl Flap Actuator, is stored in the DDE.

CAUSE

The linkage rod for the swirl flaps in the intake manifold is binding at the pivot point of the swirl flap actuator.

PROCEDURE

Remove the intake manifold (refer to Repair Instruction REP11 61 050). Turn the manifold over to access the swirl flap actuator (1).

Push the linkage arm (1) down onto the pivot point of the actuator, and install the clip (P/N 11 61 8 511 113) (2) onto the pivot of the actuator so

that it is positioned between the swirl flap linkage and the actuator pivot. Reinstall the manifold.
