Dealer Wants $1.5 Million For Tupac's 1996 BMW 7 Series

Car's celebrity connection doesn't come cheap.

The definition of what something is worth is generally agreed to be the point where the asking price and what someone is willing to pay for it intersect. A rather obvious observation but one that has particular relevance in the case of this 1996 BMW 750Li.

In the automotive world, rarity, history and celebrity links can all have a positive effect on a vehicle’s value, this one ticks most of those boxes but not in the usual way. You see this is the car that hip-hop artist Tupac Shakur was killed in back in September 1996, which is why Celebrity Cars Las Vegas is currently asking a very healthy $1.5 million for it.

The gruesome drive-by shooting of Tupac in Las Vegas shook the world all those years ago and it may seem a bit grim to try and profit from the event, the pricey Bimmer has been on sale at Celebrity Cars since the fall of 2017 so perhaps other people feel the same way about it. The car itself was acquired by Ryan Hamilton, the owner of Celebrity Cars, back in 2017 from an unnamed owner. When the car first came on sale there was some confusion as to who was actually selling it. The memorabilia business Moments In Time also had the car listed despite not actually having the car.

All of that has since been resolved and the 7 Series has at that point been fully restored so the bullet holes and any other damage are no longer visible, it does however come with papers to validate its history. In this case, though, the restoration may have actually decreased its value, some images from the dealer do seem to show where the damage original occurred but this is not mentioned in the sales info.

Seeing as the car was practically new at the time of the shooting it may seem somewhat surprising to note that it has over 120,000 miles on the clock, clearly the previous owner did not want that velvety-smooth V12 to go to waste.

Whether someone does eventually decide to offer the full asking price for the car is uncertain, this 7 Series is not competing with exotic supercars or iconic classics but rather other one-off celebrity memorabilia like the first bat Babe Ruth ever hit a home run with. That piece of history may have sold for a bit less at $1.25-million, but it didn’t come with electric seats, chrome rims or extra rear legroom. The choice is yours.

BMW Expands Recall To 1.6 Million Vehicles Worldwide Over Fire Risk

Has the mystery finally be solved?

BMW has just announced that it is expanding a recall to cover a total of 1.6 million vehicles globally because of possible fluid leaks that could result in a fire, the Associated Press reports. The German automaker believes that in some of its diesel vehicles coolant could leak from the exhaust gas recirculation module, which is part of the emissions reduction system. The leaks may then mix with soot at high temperatures and start a fire. BMW has already decided to recall some 480,000 vehicles in Asia and Europe following reports of fires in South Korea. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

This all began a few years ago when certain BMW models began bursting into flames in South Korea. The German automaker had no immediate explanation for the fires, but it began investigating. Several months later, it issued a recall for a little over 150,000 vehicles, of which 136,000 were in the US. The affected vehicles - X5s, X6s, and 5 and 6 Series vehicles built between 2007 and 2012 - were believed to have a wiring problem for the fuel pump. A loose connection and improper contact could cause the connector to melt, and turn into a fuel leak. The car would then likely stall and a fire could erupt.

Jump ahead to this past August and South Korea decided to ban 20,000 BMWs from its roads due to more engine fires. A total of 13 owners there filed a class action lawsuit against BMW and even the South Korean government appealed to affected owners not to drive their cars. The vehicle in question here is the diesel-powered 520d. The recall announced today is for vehicles built between 2010 and 2017. BMW says affected customers, 54,000 of whom live in the US and Canada, will be contacted shortly. Hopefully, the problem has been solved once and for all.

All Of These Cars Have Been Driven More Than 1 Million Miles

Welcome to the Million-Mile Club.

It’s not every day you come across, let alone read about, a car that’s been driven more than one million miles. Owners that want their rides to last forever have to meticulously maintain every little detail, from all of the car's mechanicals to its exterior paintwork.

Considering the popularity of two, three, maybe five-year leases, owning a car for decades will sound strange to some people. Just make a monthly payment, don’t worry at all about maintenance (warranty-covered), don’t exceed your yearly mileage limit, and that’s about it. You'll be trading in the car in for a new one before you know it.

Well, that formula doesn’t work for these car owners who have all managed to put over a million miles on their rides. They’re committed to their cars for the long haul. Literally.

1989 Saab 900 SPG

Meet Wisconsin resident Peter Gilbert. He worked as a traveling salesman and, of course, needed the right vehicle to get him everywhere. That vehicle was a 1989 Saab 900 SPG. Gilbert properly maintained his Saab with a new transmission at 200,000 miles, a total of 88 tire changes, and three new cylinder head gaskets enabling him to put 1,001,385 miles on the odometer. It’s an incredible accomplishment for both car and driver, but all good things must come to an end.

Back in 2014, Gilbert took one final drive in his Saab to the Wisconsin Automotive Museum where he donated it. In appreciation for his generosity and high-mileage accomplishment, Saab gifted him a new 9-5 Aero. Unfortunately, Saab went out of business soon after.

1990 Honda Accord

They say Hondas can be driven forever. Well, they’re right and this 1990 Honda Accord sedan is proof. Joe LoCicero drove his Marysville, Ohio-built Accord for two decades until Honda decided to give him a then brand-new 2012 Accord sedan in late 2011. “If you listen carefully, she’s getting old,” LoCicero said, “but it’s been an amazing ride.” He nicknamed his Accord “True Blue” for its light-blue exterior paint, and Joe himself has rightly earned a nickname: “Million-Mile Joe.” And to top it all off, Joe doesn’t live in a warm and sunny climate like Southern California, but rather in Maine, where his Accord survived the harsh winters and lots of snow.

And if this isn’t all amazing enough, LoCicero isn’t even the car’s first owner. He bought it used in 1996 when it already accumulated 74,000 miles. He simply kept her going with diligent maintenance, keeping track of every fill-up (yes, really), tire rotation and oil change in over a dozen notebooks.

2006 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD

Clocking up a million miles is impressive enough, but doing it in just six years is incredible. But that's exactly what this 2006 Chevrolet Silverado achieved. Hugh and Tammy Pennington of Delton, Michigan bought the truck new in 2006 while the couple lived in Georgia. Not only are they truck lovers but they also love traveling. The Penningtons also have big hearts and did their part to help out those in need following the devastation brought by Hurricane Katrina. They began hauling aid, Federal Emergency Management Agency trailers, down south immediately following the hurricane.

Later on, they began hauling fifth wheels and trailers from factories to dealerships while working for a transport company. In between, they took several long-distance vacations to parts of Canada and the US. One day they were in Chicago when the odometer began saying “error”. They hit the million-mile mark and the odo didn’t know what to do. It was soon turned back to zero.

1990 BMW 325i

Not all million-mile cars were purchased by private individuals. In this case, it was by a company, and it had a very good reason for doing so. Back in 1990, American oil company Mobil 1 bought a then brand new BMW 325i for testing lubricants. The BMW was chosen because of its impressive 2.5-liter inline-six engine. It was the ideal motor for long-term testing. The company figured it’d be a fascinating experiment to see if the 325i could be driven a million miles. Turns out it could, but like we said this was an experiment.

The coupe never left the garage. It wasn’t driven anywhere. Engineers placed it on a rolling road, think of it as a treadmill for cars, fitted it with a never-ending fuel tank, and stuck the throttle at 85 mph. Then they sat back and let it run for four years. Once it hit a million miles, mechanics took its engine apart piece by piece and discovered that overall wear and tear was negligible. The 325i’s engine was still within factory specs for a new car.

1964 Porsche 356

Guy Newmark was gifted his 1964 Porsche 356C coupe as a college graduation present from his father and he’s driven it ever since. That was over 50 years ago. Newmark and “Blu” drive everywhere together. It’s been a mutually beneficial relationship. Newmark religiously maintains “Blu” with a service every 3,000 miles and “Blu” will always get him to his destination. The odometer has since rolled over for the tenth time. Proper and diligent maintenance makes all the difference.

1983 Lincoln Town Car

The Lincoln Town Car may be long gone, but there are still plenty out there and not all of them are limousines. One such example is this 1983 Town Car owned by Chet Belisle. Having been driven over 1.3 million miles, this old land yacht is still going strong. Belisle likes to drive the car coast-to-coast and he’s never broken down. An engine and transmission rebuild and regular maintenance ensure that’ll never happen. He also takes advantage of lifetime warranties for various parts wherever they’re offered. He’s also logged miles and tunes up from the day he drove it home from the dealership when it only had 53 miles.

1996 Dodge Ram 2500

Dan Edelman prefers his vehicles to be dependable rather than luxurious. His 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 is proof. It’s a true truck that has over 1 million miles on its clock. In fact, he hit that million mile mark back in 2010, so who knows what it’s up to today. Edelman also owned a 1994 Plymouth Voyager with 620,000 miles on it at the time of the truck’s milestone. Edelman’s secret to success isn’t really so much a secret. Regular maintenance is key.

The truck has received new radiators, starters, generators, and pumps the moment they’re required. Edelman also believes the truck has lasted for as long as it has thanks to its mostly mechanical engine. Only half a dozen components are electrical. Even the fuel injectors and pump are mechanical. That makes a big difference.

Mercedes-Benz 240D

Paul Harman bought his Mercedes-Benz 240D used back in 1983 when it had 40,000 miles on it. In 1991 he’d driven it over half a million miles. In 2008, the million mile day arrived. As with all other million mile car owners, Harman has his car serviced regularly, in his case every 3,000 miles. Its four-cylinder diesel was given a complete overhaul at 376,000 miles. The driver’s seat was even restored at 550,000 miles along with all of the body’s rubber seals. It's also received a fresh coat of exterior paint to keep it looking good.

2007 Toyota Tundra

If Chevy and Ram trucks can achieve over one million miles, then why not a Toyota truck? This 2007 Toyota Tundra is owned by Victor Sheppard and it was in 2016 when he and his truck earned their official million mile card membership. Because of Sheppard’s oil supply delivery job, he’s required to drive to oil fields across the country. He bought the truck new and has done all of the oil changes himself. The sole mechanical issue he had was at 776,000 miles when the reverse went out. He’s since had it fixed and the Tundra is still going strong. The odometer actually stopped working at 999,999 miles.

1966 Volvo P1800

If you thought a million miles on a car or truck was pretty insane, just wait. This 1966 Volvo P1800 has been driven well over three million miles by its sole owner Irv Gordon. He bought the gorgeous coupe new back in 1966 and the two have been together ever since. In fact, he bought the car on a Friday and brought it back to the dealership the following Monday because he drove it 1,500 miles. It was a holiday weekend and, well, he was in love with the driving the car.

He managed to accumulate 500,000 miles in just 10 years and ultimately the one million mile mark in 1987. Two million miles came in 2002. When the three million mark was about to arrive in 2013, Gordon, a Long Island, New York native, decided to road trip it to the one US state he had yet to visit: Alaska. “The best way to explore America is by car,” Gordon said. Sadly, Irv Gordon has died at age 77 just a few days before this article was published. Together, Gordon and his beloved Volvo P1800 traveled a total of 3.2 million miles.

Matt Farah is a devoted gearhead with an impressive and varied car collection. Not all of his cars are new, such as his 1996 Lexus LS400. Farah has used it as his daily driver around town for the past couple of years after buying it a couple of years ago with 850,000 miles on its odo. His goal is to crank it up to over a million miles and to help make that happen, he'll generously loan it out to trusted friends who have someplace far to go.

Mind you, not everything properly works in the car from what we've been told. Depending on which day of the week and the current location of the earth in relation to the sun and moon, some, not all, of the speakers will work. The power steering is also supposedly not fully up to par. But this 22-year-old Lexus is living, breathing proof that some cars refuse to die.

10 Best Interiors Of 2018: $100,000 To $1 Million

Just hit the lottery? Here are the best interiors to travel in style.

Modern cars are becoming ever more luxurious and brimming with tech features, even at an affordable price. We have covered our favorite car interiors below a $50,000 price, as well as more expensive interiors in the $50,000 to $100,000 price segment. Now it is time to leave reality behind, by focusing on cars with a $100,000 to $1,000,000 price tag. These are some of the nicest car interiors in the world, so choosing a top 10 wasn't easy.

McLaren 720S

The McLaren 720S doesn't just have one of the best interiors on the market, it may simply be the best car on the market. That's because unlike other supercars, the 720S is extremely comfortable. Visibility is fantastic and the entire interior is filled with leather and metal. Getting in and out is a bit tricky, but once you are in the 720S can trick you into thinking you are driving a large luxury car, not a mid-engine supercar.

Mercedes S-Class

The Mercedes S-Class Coupe/Convertible is actually one of the least prestigious cars on this list, because it isn't built by an "exotic" car company. This doesn't prevent it from having one of the best interiors at any price. The AMG S63 and S65 models in particular have some of the best seats fitted to any production car - equipped with heating, ventilation, and multiple massage modes. Almost every surface in the S-Class is metal, leather, wood, or carbon fiber, and the coupe/convertible models feature a more stylish interior than the sedan.

Rolls-Royce Phantom

When it comes to luxury, almost nothing compares to the opulence of a Rolls-Royce. There are a number of Rolls models we could have chosen from, but we went with the tried and true Phantom. Rolls-Royce has brought the Phantom into the 21st century, with new digital displays, and more high tech entertainment in the rear seats. Classic Rolls-Royce fans need not worry, because the interior is still filled with enough wood and leather to drive eco mentalists nuts.

Bentley Continental GT

Bentley has always been a sportier, luxury counterpart to Rolls-Royce. The new Continental GT shows Bentley's signature blend of sport and luxury in a highly unique way. We particularly love the new infotainment display, which can rotate to show analogue gauges or a blank wood panel.

Lamborghini Urus

We didn't know how to feel about Lamborghini launching a new SUV model, but after sitting in the Urus, our hesitation faded away. The basic structure looks reminiscent of some new Audi models like the A6 and A8, but Lamborghini styled it in such a way that the shared layout is barely recognizable - unlike a certain SUV from a competing Italian luxury brand.

Land Rover Range Rover

Several exotic automakers have jumped into the SUV market, including Bentley, Maserati, Lamborghini, and Rolls-Royce. These automakers all make very lovely interiors, but they are all competing at a much higher price point than one of the best SUVs on the market: the Land Rover Range Rover. The Range Rover has recently been updated with a new dual screen layout from the Velar, and continues to be one of the nicest interiors on the market.

Aston Martin DBS Superleggera

Some buyers who spend six-figures on a car don't just want it to be comfortable, they want it to feel sporty as well. Aston Martin has always built some of the most unique interiors, and the British marque has knocked it out of the park with the new DBS Superleggera. The infotainment is shared with Mercedes, so it will work properly, and Aston has given the rest of the interior a unique flare with some interesting leather stitching.

Ferrari 812 Superfast

The Ferrari 812 Superfast may be a 789 horsepower monster, but it is also what is known as a Grand Tourer (or GT car). A GT is a car built to cover long stretches of highway at high speed, while keeping the driver comfortable. Ferrari has managed to keep the minimalist look found on its other models, while also offering a level of luxury expected on a GT car.

Audi R8

Since it was unveiled back in 2006, The Audi R8 was known as the every day supercar. Unlike older supercars, the R8 had plenty of headroom and a reasonable trunk up front. The latest R8 continues to be a comfortable daily driver, and has improved with a new driver focused layout - including Audi's fully configurable Virtual Cockpit display.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS

When you spend six figures on a car, you expect it to have basic features like navigation and a radio, but these features also add weight. Track focused cars like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS are not luxurious, but are pathological in their pursuit of speed. The GT3 RS doesn't have a radio, but you can have Porsche put it back in for you if you so desire. We particularly love the sport bucket seats on the Weissach Package, which can be optioned in a cool green color.

Philippines President Ordered The Massacre Of Nearly $6 Million Worth Of Cars

Now watch it happen. Painfully happen.

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte isn’t someone who messes around. If he doesn’t like something (or someone), well, he has his, shall we say, odd ways to deal with them. Duterte has made a name for himself since his 2016 election for major crackdowns on corruption, crime and drug smuggling. While that’s all fine and good, Duterte often loves nothing more than to make a big public display of his policies in action. The Daily Mail has managed to get a hold of footage showing the massacre of nearly $6 million worth of confiscation vehicles that were reportedly illegally imported into the country.

Some of the cars destined for a crushing date with the bulldozer include some BMWs, Lamborghinis, Porsches, and even several motorcycles. And because Duterte is Duterte, he actually shows up in person to watch the destruction. He parks himself at a safe distance away and even wears safety glasses and a construction hate. You know, just in case a flying bolt were to smack him in the face.

“I did this because you have to show to the world that you have a viable place of investment and business,” Duterte said just before the destruction display. “And the only way to show it is that you are productive and that you have the economy, to absorb the productivity of the population.” This isn’t the first time, and certainly not the last, Duterte has ordered illegally imported vehicles to be crushed. A total of $2.76 million worth of exotic car were also sent to the bulldozer earlier this year. Considering Duterte has four more years left of his six-year term, expect the next destruction date to be just around the corner.
