MODEL



E46 3 Series with M52TU, M54, S54 engine - All up to 3/01 production



E39 5 Series with M52TU, M54 engine - From 9/97 up to 3/01 production



E36 Z3 with M52TU, M54, S54 engine - From 9/98 up to 3/01 production



E39 5 Series with M62 engine - From 9/96 up to 3/01 production



E53 X5 with M54 engine - All up to 3/01 production



E52 Z8, E39 M5 with S62 engine - All up to 3/01 production



SITUATION



A popping sound may be heard along with a click which is felt in the clutch pedal in the last third of pedal travel when the clutch pedal is pressed or



released.



CORRECTION



An improved clutch pressure plate was introduced in production in March 2001 to eliminate the potential clutch pedal popping sound and click felt



in the clutch pedal as described above.



Note:



The clutch pedal popping sound and click felt in the clutch pedal has no effect on clutch service life.



PROCEDURE



Only if a customer complaint is received and the popping and clicking is verified in the clutch pedal should the clutch set be replaced as outlined in



the repair manual, group 21, section 21 21 500.



PARTS INFORMATION



See Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) for appropriate clutch set part numbers/model applications.



Only the new improved clutch sets are available from the Parts Distribution Centers (PDCs).



The part numbers remain the same.

Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
