Instructions for Installing Late Window Regulator in Early Door.
MODEL:
E39
Situation:
The method of mounting the drive portion of E39 front door window regulators was changed as of 9/97 production due to a change in the door
beam. The early style (before 9/97) regulators are no longer available and are superseded to the late style (after 9/97) regulators.
Due to the differing mounting points, the late regulator must be modified to fit the early door.
Procedure:
When removing the early style regulator, save the bracket and bolts that clamp the regulator to the door beam.
Note:
The first time this installation is attempted you may want to "test fit" the regulator and bracket prior to drilling to visualize the positioning of the
bracket behind the regulator.

Measure down from the top edge of the regulator stamping approximately 13 mm (A) and up from the bottom approximately 20.5 mm (B).
Mark and drill an 8 mm hole as indicated (C).
Mount the regulator in the door and slide the bracket (1) saved from the removed regulator behind the regulator and and align the captured nut in the
bracket with the drilled hole.
Install one of the Torx(r) bolts (2) to fasten the bracket to the regulator.
Tighten the clamp bolt on the regulator to secure the other end of
the bracket.
