Official: BMW M8 Will Have Over 600 HP And All-Wheel Drive
The 8 Series Convertible only broke cover last week, but BMW is wasting no time teasing another future model in the 8 Series family: the much-anticipated M8. There have been plenty of rumors about BMW’s new flagship coupe, but the automaker has confirmed some of the M8's technical details, which is “en route to series production.”
New photos also show a camouflaged M8 prototype being put through its paces at the Estoril grand-prix racing circuit in Portugal allowing BMW to fine-tune the car's dynamics.
Just as rumors suggested, BMW has confirmed the M8 will be even more powerful than the new M5. Specific details are still being kept under wraps, but BMW says the M8 will use a “high-revving” TwinPower Turbo V8 engine that produces over 600 hp. Previous rumors have suggested the M8 will have 615 hp on tap. That would make it more powerful than the standard M5’s 600-hp figure, but less powerful than the M5 Competition, which has 625 hp. The M8 will serve as BMW’s new flagship, so don’t be surprised if a more powerful M8 Competition model joins the line-up.
The M8 won’t just share the M5’s powertrain either, as it will also have an M xDrive all-wheel drive system. It will be rear biased to keep purists happy and offer a traditional 2WD mode. As you’d expect for a full-fat BMW M car, the handling will also be exceptional.
BMW says the car’s M-specific suspension “delivers exceptional directional stability, steering precision and cornering dynamics.” BMW M has also increased the rigidity of the body structure, chassis components and chassis mounting. According to BMW, the M8 will be lighter than the standard 8 Series, have a low center of gravity, even weight distribution, optimum wheelbase and wide tracks.
Sadly, there’s still a long time to wait for the car’s unveiling, as BMW confirmed the M8 Coupe will launch in 2019 followed by the BMW M8 Convertible and BMW M8 Gran Coupe.

Audi e-tron GT Concept Arrives Before Official Debut
Set to make its official debut here at the 2018 LA Auto Show, the Audi e-tron GT Concept was revealed to a select few media last night in downtown LA with Robert Downy Jr. doing the honors. Yes, we were there, alas no-one was permitted to take any pictures, but these images of a camouflaged model have now been released. You'll have to wait for images of the car - which looks spectacular - when it premieres to the world tomorrow.
Audi has been teasing what will soon become a Tesla Model S fighter over the past couple weeks, but specific details remain scarce. What we do know is that it shares much of its general underpinnings with the also upcoming Porsche Taycan. Remember, both Porsche and Audi are part of the VW Group.
While the e-tron is an SUV crossover, the e-tron GT takes the shape of a sleek four-door coupe, with a similar silhouette to the A7, sleek athletic lines, a muscular rear end and bags of supercar performance.
We’ve long been huge fans of the liftback body style. It’ll reportedly have a 248-mile range on a single charge and 80 percent of its battery can be recharged in less than 12 minutes as it’ll be the first Audi EV equipped with batteries capable of charging at 350 kWh. In other words, don’t worry about range anxiety because it won’t be a problem. Performance details are yet to be confirmed but Audi told us 0-60 mph will happen in 3.5 seconds.
The e-tron GT, once it reaches production, will be the second pure electric Audi and the German automaker plans to have a total of 12 EVs on the market by 2025.
The few Audi e-tron GT concept images you’re looking at show the vehicle covered in a camouflage wrap of sorts, very similar to what was used to slightly disguise the e-tron SUV concept last summer. The production version is expected to arrive sometime in 2020. We’ll learn a ton of new details starting tomorrow and along with additional images and live shots then as well.

It’s Now Official: BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe And Convertible Coming In 2019
The stunning BMW 8 Series Coupe is now in production – but it’s just the start of BMW’s new model onslaught. We already know the gorgeous grand tourer will spawn Gran Coupe and Convertible variants, and while we were expecting to see the 8 Series drop its top in either the LA or Paris Auto Show later this year, Motor1 reports that BMW’s chairman Harald Kruger confirmed that both the 8 Series Gran Coupe and 8 Series Convertible will be unveiled in 2019 during a conference. Before then, BMW is expected to unveil the full-fat M8 version of the 8 Series Coupe as well as a new, and presumably electric, iNEXT concept car later this year.
Then there’s the long-awaited new BMW Z4, which looks like it will break cover in just a few weeks at Pebble Beach, and the full-size X7 SUV is also expected to be revealed in the next few months. If that sounds hectic, 2019 is already shaping up to be a very busy year for the Bavarian automaker.
In addition to the 8 Series Gran Coupe and 8 Series Convertible, BMW will also launch one of its most important models next year: the new 3 Series, which rumors suggest will debut at this year’s Paris Auto Show in October. 2019 will also see the launch of the new X6, 7 Series facelift, and possibly M versions of the X3 and X4.
Going back to the 8 Series Gran Coupe and 8 Series Convertible, prototypes of both models were recently spotted by our spy photographers undergoing testing. The Gran Coupe will, of course, be based on the 8 Series Coupe, but its longer platform and two additional doors will allow BMW to go after the Porsche Panamera. Expect it to share the same twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 as its Coupe counterpart that produces 523 hp.
As for the Convertible, we already have a good idea what the topless 8 Series will look like as a prototype was recently spotted without any camouflage. It will come with a soft top rather than a retractable roof to save weight, but as with any convertible, it will still be heavier than the standard coupe, which will no doubt make it slightly slower in the 0-62 mph sprint.

Bentley Bentayga Hybrid Leaks Before Official Reveal
A production version of the EXP12 Speed 6e Concept will also follow.
We’ve known for some time Bentley planned a surprise for this year’s Geneva Motor Show. Now those plans have leaked out: a plug-in hybrid version of the Bentayga SUV will debut at the Swiss show. While Bentley has not yet officially announced its first-ever plug-in hybrid for the show, a report emerged on Autocar with details and images of the model. The British outlet swiftly took down the report, but not before Carscoops gathered all the details and photos.
According to CarScoops, the Bentayga will inherit the same setup as the Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid. This means we can expect a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine paired with an electric motor, generating a combined output of around 450 horsepower. The report didn't detail any performance figures. It will also offer 31 miles of pure electric range and take 7.5 hours to fully charge. A quick-charger styled by renowned designer Philippe Starck will reduce that time to 2.5 hours, however. It’s designed to keep cables “neat and safe” while acting as a “functional piece of art.”
Three E Modes will be available in the Bentayga Hybrid to manage battery usage: EV Drive, Hybrid, and Hold. A dedicated infotainment system will also provide data on powertrain usage. Visually, the Bentayga Hybrid looks virtually identical to its combustion-engined counterparts and can only be distinguished by copper-colored “Hybrid” badges and wheel hubs. As part of its electrification plans, a fully electric Bentley sports car is also expected to launch in 2020 as a production version of the exquisite EXP12 Speed 6e concept that debuted at Geneva last year. It's expected to share the same platform as the Porsche Mission E.
No pricing details have been revealed, but the plug-in hybrid is expected to be priced below the range-topping W12 Bentayga. Bentley will be lifting the wraps off the Bentayga Hybrid at Geneva this week, but we suspect an online reveal is imminent now that the details have leaked.
