ZF 5HP19 - Diagnostic for "No-reverse" Complaint
MODEL
E46 323iA with M52TU and ZF 5HP19 from 03/00 until 08/00
SITUATION
Customer complains that after placing gear selector into reverse position, "R" is displayed in instrument cluster but transmission gear is not engaged.
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
1. Check for gear selector switch faults, and repair if needed.
2. Check fluid level and condition. Top-off if required.

3. If you perform all the checks listed above and you find no defect, then the complete transmission needs to be replaced.
