Electrical - Battery Draw After iPod(R) Installation

SUBJECT



Battery Draw Since An iPod Was Installed



MODEL



E46 (3 Series) with option 661 (ALPINE CD53 radio)



E53 (X5) with option 661 (ALPINE CD53 radio)



SITUATION



Vehicle will not start. Battery has discharged since an iPod was installed in the vehicle. The iPod may be connected or disconnected.



CAUSE



Sychronization error between the ALPINE CD53 radio and the iPod interface.



[NEW] CORRECTION



On a customer complaint basis only, replace the iPod Interface. The improved iPod Interface Gen2 has HW 2.0 and SW 2.0.

Keyless Entry/Antitheft - Remotes Inoperative

SUBJECT



Remotes mop, "Key in Ignition" Warning



MODEL



E46 (3 Series)



SITUATION



The remotes are inoperative. In addition, the "Key in Ignition" chime sounds when the key is removed and the door is opened, and the



electrochromic mirror is inoperative.



CAUSE



Fuse 67 (KL30 supply to EWS - Electronic Immobilizer Control Unit) is blown.



CORRECTION



Diagnose and correct the reason for the blown fuse. In particular, check the red/black wire near harness splice X1736 at the steering column. Refer to



ETM for circuits supplied by Fuse F67.
