Brake Light Failure Indicated in Check Control or Pictogram
MODEL:
E38, E39, E46 vehicles produced November 1998 to January 1999
Situation:
For vehicles fitted with an IKE, the Check Control message "Check brake light" is displayed. For vehicles with other instrument clusters, the
pictogram shows a brake bulb failure.
The brake lights function correctly.
Cause:
Faulty brake light switch
Correction:
On a customer complaint basis, replace the brake light switch.
The replacement switch should have either a silver dot (1) marked next to the date code, or no color dot at all.
