BMW Business RDS Radio - Service Mode Function

Situation:
Since September 1998 production all BMW vehicles are equipped with BMW Business RDS (Radio Data-Broadcasting System) Radios. The
"Service Mode Function" of the radios enables technicians to retrieve important information and change certain settings. Following Technical
Reference Information, describes Service Mode access procedure, and Service Mode selections for the RDS radios fitted into 3, 5, 7 and XS series
vehicles.
C33, Business RDS MID Radio (E39, X5 with MID).
C23 Business RDS MID Radio (E38 with MID).
To enter the Radio Service Mode:
-- Turn the ignition key to position R

-- Turn radio "ON", then turn "OFF" and "ON" again
-- Press and hold "M" button (1) [or one of the preset MID buttons (2) under displayed "RDS" on C23 radio] for approximately 10 seconds
-- Display will show "SN # a". You have entered the Service Mode
-- Use MID preset keys (2) to scroll through various function and to select new settings (not all functions can be changed)
After making selections, turn radio "OFF" to set changes and exit the Service Mode.
C33, C23 RDS Radios Service Mode selections:
C23 BM (Board Monitor) Business RDS Radio
(E39, E38, X5 with Navigation)
To enter the Radio Service Mode:
-- Turn the ignition key to position R
-- Turn radio "ON", then turn "OFF" and "ON" again
-- Press and hold "RDS" button (1) for approximately 10 seconds

-- Use "<" & ">" keys (2) to scroll through various function, and preset station keys (1-6) to select new settings (not all functions can be changed).
-- After making selections, turn radio "OFF" to set changes and exit the Service Mode.

To enter the Radio Service Mode:
-- Turn key to position R
-- Turn radio "ON" then turn "OFF" and "ON" again
-- Press and hold "M" button (1) for approximately 10 seconds
-- Display will show "SN #a". You have entered the Service mode
-- Use "-" & "+" keys (2) to scroll through various function, and arrow ("<", ">") keys to select new settings (not all functions can be changed).
-- After making selections, turn radio "OFF" to set changes and exit the Service Mode.
