E46 Telephone Prewire Connector/Coax Location

Situation:
When installing the E46 telephone kit, the telephone prewire connector may be found in one of three different locations.

E46
Correction:
To locate the telephone prewire connector/coax, look under the coin holder, the left side of the transmission tunnel, or in front of the MRS module.
Procedure:
To locate the telephone prewire connector and coax, check in the following locations:
1. The telephone prewire should be located under the "coin holder". Remove the "coin holder" and "cup holder" then look for the connectors
(1,2) as illustrated. The connectors may be positioned under the carpet "cut-out".
2. If the connectors are not found in this position, proceed to the next location.
3. Remove the shifter indicator cover (automatic) or boot (manual) and remove the front fasteners (1).
4. Remove the rear ashtray to access the two rear fasteners (2).
5. Lift the parking brake boot and raise the brake handle. Remove the center console (automatic shown).

6. Look on the left side (driver's side) between the carpet and the transmission tunnel as illustrated. The connectors (1,2) will be taped to the
transmission tunnel.
7. If the connectors are not found in this position, proceed to the next location.
8. The connectors (1) are taped in front of the MRS module as illustrated.
9. WARNING!! Disconnect the battery connections before proceeding.
10. Cut the carpet with a utility knife along the dotted lines as illustrated.

12. Carefully pull back the carpet to expose the telephone connectors (1) which are taped in front of the MRS module (2).
13. Route the cables (arrows) along the side of the MRS module as illustrated.
14. Route the telephone connector (1) and coax (2) through the carpet "cut-out" (3).
