SUBJECT:

Updated Software for CMT 5000/CPT 6000 Phones on 2000 MY Vehicles with MK II Navigation System

MODEL:

227

E46, E39, E38 with BMW Navigation System Mark II Model Year 2000

Situation:

After installation of a CMT 5000/CPT 6000VR Motorola phone, the special BMW Roadside Assistance phone number (800 599 4809) for

Navigation System equipped vehicles, can not be programmed into the I-Bus Interface Box (programming procedure in Service Information 84 14

97 from May of 1997).

Cause:

Software incompatibility between the Interface Box of the CMT 5000/CPT 6000VR phone (version SW 02 and lower) and Navigation System

(operating version SW 2.8A and higher).

Correction:

If during phone installation (and programming of Roadside Assistance number) the situation described above takes place, first identify software

version of the phone Interface Box. If the displayed software version is SW 02, replace the Interface Box EPROM, following the instructions below.

Procedure:

To identify the software level of the Interface Box:

1. Turn ignition switch to "ON "position.

2. Telephone must have powered up with ignition switch "ON"; radio must be "Off".

3. Wait for Board Monitor Screen to power up.

4. Select Menu (push MENU button).

5. Move cursor box (by rotating selector knob) to highlight "Telephone".

6. Turn ignition switch "OFF" for at least 5 seconds and then turn to "ON" position.

7. Screen should appear as in step 5. Quickly select "Telephone" (by pressing selector knob) on Board Monitor.

8. Quickly scroll to "INFO" (rotate selector knob two clicks clockwise) then Press and Hold the knob for 6 seconds.

9. Software version will appear in the color band at the top of the screen for approximately 3 seconds (Example: EJB HW:01 SW:02).

If the software identification version SW:02 is displayed, replace the Interface Box EPROM with one of version SW:04.

Replacement of the EPROM

Important!

From this point on, until the Interface Box is reassembled, anti-static precautions must be observed. Use an anti-static mat connected to a good

ground as shown.

000 045) as shown. This tool was sent to you under the Automatic Tool Shipment Program. Refer to S.I. 04 17 95

Insert the new EPROM into the socket by pressing straight down on the center of the part. Pay close attention to the "cut-off" corner of the EPROM

as shown so that the EPROM is correctly positioned in the socket. The metal pins of the EPROM must be on the bottom side when inserted into the

socket. The label "HW01 SW04" must be on top. Reassemble the Interface Box.

Perform a functional check (part of installation procedure) by programming the special BMW Roadside Assistance phone number into the I-Bus

Interface Box:

1. Turn ignition to Accessory position.

2. Using the handset, enter for CMT 5000VR- FCN, Menu, 95, CLR. for CPT 6000VR FCN, 0, 95, CLR

If the reprogramming procedure was successful, the Board Monitor will return to the screen with Digit Entry mode highlighted and the phone

number will disappear from the display. If the procedure was not successful you must try again.

To confirm that the correct phone number was stored in the I-Bus Interface you must make a "Programming" test phone call.

Select "EMERGENCY", then select ASSIST. The display will show ATTEMPTING CONNECTION.

1. After the voice prompt, "BMW GPS Assist", select the DATA button. After transmission of vehicle data (multiple DTMF tones) Board

Monitor instructions and an RSA operator will guide you through the test call.

2. At the end of this test, terminate the call by pressing the Call Control Button on the Board Monitor or END on the handset. Turn ignition to

Off position.

NOTE:
