SUBJECT:

Creaking, Squeaking, Clicking Noises From Window Regulator

MODEL:

E46 sedan

Situation:

Some E46 sedan customers may complain of a variety of noises that seem to come from the front door window or door seals. Many of the noises

may be traced to the window regulator installed in cars produced prior to 2/00.

The regulator rails used in the early style regulator were galvanized to prevent corrosion, but the relatively rough surface of the rails would wear

away the plastic sliders as the window operated, causing noises as the sliders wore down.

Correction:

The window regulators used in production since 2/00 are coated with black plastic to reduce friction between the sliders and the rails, as well as the

lift cables and the rails.

In case of customer complaint, verify the source of the noise, and if it is determined that the regulator is the source, replace the affected regulator

with the new style unit.

Parts Information:

The part numbers of the new style regulators have been superseded.

Note:

Initial parts supply is limited, please do not order excessive quantities.
