M57Y Engine: High-pressure EGR Valve Replacement Procedures
MODEL
X5 (E70) and 3 Series (E90) with the M57Y (diesel) engine
SITUATION
After diagnosis due to a Service Engine Soon lamp being on, it was determined that the high-pressure exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve needs to
be replaced. The new EGR valve is an improved design, with an inverse operating strategy that also requires programming of the DDE via the
conversion path.
PROCEDURE
Replace the high-pressure EGR valve (Repair Instruction RA 11 71 501). After replacement of the EGR valve, perform a programming session with
the current version of ISTA/P. Before completing the measures plan, select Vehicle from the top menu and select Conversions. Next, select
"Conversion replacement inverse exhaust-gas recirculation valve". After selecting the conversion, continue with the measures plan and reprogram
