F04 (ActiveHybrid 7)

[NEW] Vehicles produced from August 2008 to June 2012

SITUATION

A rattling noise can be heard from the lower part of the instrument panel, near the drivers side footwell. The rattling noise occurs when driving on

rough roads.

CAUSE

The lower instrument trim panel has too much clearance.

PROCEDURE

Confirm the noise is coming from lower pedal trim of the instrument panel. Lightly tap the lower trim to reproduce the noise. If the noise is heard,

proceed to the next step.

1. Remove the drivers side pedal assembly trim, using the Repair Instructions 51 45 184.

2. With the trim panel removed, place the trim on a clean work surface. The area to be modified is shown by the red box.

3. Apply a self-adhesive felt strip, measuring 20x60x0.8 mm, to the trim area shown in the yellow box.

4. Locate the plastic tab to the right side of the felt strip that was just applied.

5. Use a proper tool, and cut off the plastic corner tab along the yellow line. Reinstall the trim and confirm the noise is gone. Lightly tap in the

same area to confirm the noise is gone.
