N54, N54T - Pre-Catalyst Oxygen Sensor Dynamic Faults Stored
MODEL
E60, E61 (5 Series) with the N54 engine produced from 3/2008 until the end of production 3/2010
E89 (Z4) with the N54 and N54T engines produced from 2/2009 to 9/2011
E92, E93 (3 Series) with the N54T engine produced from 3/2010 to 9/2011
F01, F02 (7 Series) with the N54 engine produced from 3/20010 to 3/2011
SITUATION
The Service Engine Soon lamp (MIL) is on.
The following faults are stored in the DME fault code memory:
E Series:
2C39 - oxygen sensor upstream of catalytic converter, dynamics

and/or
2C3A - oxygen sensor upstream of catalytic converter 2, dynamics
F Series:
128901 - oxygen sensor upstream of catalytic converter, dynamics: slow reaction
and/or
128902 - oxygen sensor upstream of catalytic converter, dynamics: slow reaction
and/or
128A01 - oxygen sensor upstream of catalytic converter 2, dynamics: slow reaction
and/or
128A02 - oxygen sensor upstream of catalytic converter 2, dynamics: slow reaction
CAUSE
DME software error
CORRECTION
Do not replace any parts!
E60, E61/N54 vehicles
Program the vehicle with ISTA/P P2.45.0 (available from December 2011) to integration level E060-11-12-500 or higher.
E89/N54/N54T vehicles
Program the vehicle with ISTA/P P2.43.x or a more recent version to integration level E89x-11-09-501 or higher.
E92, E93/N54T vehicles
Program the vehicle with ISTA/P P2.43.x or a more recent version to integration level E89x-11-09-501 or higher.
F01, F02/N54/US vehicles
Program the vehicle with ISTA/P P2.41.0 or a more recent version to integration level F001-11-03-502 or higher.
If the problem occurs on a vehicle that already has the integration level given above, perform diagnostics with ISTA/D.
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
