SUBJECT



Rattle Noise from the Center Vent on the Instrument Panel



MODEL



E82, E88 (1 Series) produced up to 3/2009



SITUATION



Intermittently, when driving over rough roads, a creaking or rattling noise can be heard from the area of the center vent on the instrument panel.



CAUSE



The center vent opening in the instrument panel is slightly oversized to allow for proper fitting of the vent. When the body, and thus the instrument



panel flexes, the vent moves in relation to the opening in the instrument panel, creating the noise.



[NEW] INFORMATION



The problem has been integrated into ISTA diagnostics. Follow the diagnosis test plan, using the latest ISTA version.



In "Information Search", select the "Function Structure" tab. Select Body, Mechanism, Noises, Dashboard and center console noises, then press



"Start Search".



Select test plan "B5116_E87MECH1 Dashboard and center console noises"



[NEW] CORRECTION



Refer to ISTA diagnosis for the required repair procedure.
