SUBJECT
RHT Hydraulic Unit Failure
MODEL
E89 (Z4) produced up to 8/2009
SITUATION
The hydraulic unit for the Retractable Hardtop (RHT) is inoperative and, as such, the RHT cannot be moved from the fully open or closed position.
Fault code A6A3, Hydraulic-fluid temp sensor, is stored in the convertible top module (CTM).
CAUSE
The electric motor for the hydraulic unit has overheated and failed.
CORRECTION
Replace the hydraulic unit and update the vehicle programming.
PROCEDURE
Replace the hydraulic unit per REP 54 37 185.
Program and code the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.35.1 or higher.
