SUBJECT
[NEW] Service Action: Replace Spark Plugs (N63, N74, S63)
MODEL
E70, E71, E72, F01, F02, and F07 with N63, N74, and S63 engines produced 3/11/09 to 7/22/09
SITUATION
The spark plugs in the affected vehicles may not adhere to the durability requirements.
CAUSE
Micro-cracks in the ceramic insulator of the spark plug may occur, which could result in engine misfiring and rough running, especially at higher
engine speeds.
If this were to occur, the "Service Engine Soon" lamp would be illuminated and the engine may go into the emergency operation program.
Note:
The vehicle can still be operated were this fault to occur; however, the customer should proceed directly to the nearest BMW repair facility.

In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action completed or is affected by this Service Action, first check the B-pillar

punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the
response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
[NEW] PARTS INFORMATION
PROCEDURE

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 549. After the vehicle has been checked and corrected, if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-366)
and:
A. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1):
B. Punch out code number 549 (2) printed on the label: and
C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on
Page 242
top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
