SUBJECT
S63 Engine Oil Service Forecast is Incorrect After Programming
MODEL
E70 M and E71 M with the S63 engine produced from 7/1/2009 to 4/2/2010
SITUATION
After vehicle programming in which the DME has been flashed, the engine oil service CBS forecast could incorrectly display the maximum interval
of 15,000 miles, regardless of the actual mileage traveled up until that point since the previous oil service.
CAUSE
Data transmission error between the DME and instrument cluster.
CORRECTION
As prompted during ISTA/P programming, it may be necessary to perform a CBS correction, using the most current version of ISTA, to restore the
correct oil service forecast interval, using the path below:
Activities / Service Functions / Maintenance / CBS correction, vehicle data
^ Select: ABL SCBS_6004 vehicle data CBS correction.
^ Correct or confirm the settings for the tester date and time.
^ Select item 1, "Engine oil".
^ Select: Reenter values for servicing and confirm with "Yes".
^ Enter the month when the last oil service was performed, e.g., "04" for April. If the first oil service has not yet been performed, enter the month of
registration.
^ Next, enter the year when the last oil service was performed, or the year of registration.
^ Check the entries and confirm with "Yes".
^ Check that the oil service counter is correct and change if necessary; for example, it is always set to "1" when the vehicle is new and the forecast
shown is for the first oil service.
^ The corrected CBS values are now displayed. Check that the oil service forecast and service counter are now both correct and answer "No" to exit
the test module.
This DME software error was corrected as of April 2010 production, and the problem no longer occurs on vehicles at an integration level of
E070-10-03-500 or higher.
