SUBJECT
X5 M, X6 M - Gears D or R Intermittently Cannot Be Engaged
MODEL
E70 (X5 M), E71 (X6 M) with 6HP26TU transmission up to 10/09
SITUATION
The customer may complain that intermittently after the start-up, gear positions D or R cannot be selected (the gear position display remains in P).
Fault code CF30 (indicating a communication malfunction between the transmission EGS module and the gear shifter GWS) will be stored in the
EGS memory.
CAUSE
EGS software error
CORRECTION
Reprogram and/or recode the complete vehicle with the current version of ISTA/P (2.35.3 or higher). The target integration level is E070-09-09-522
or higher. ISTA/P 2.35.3 is planned for release in mid-October 2009.
NOTE:
Until the improved programming software is available, the D/R gears can be engaged again after:
^ Allowing the vehicle to enter sleep mode and restarting after 30 minutes; or
^ Performing a battery reset.
