SUBJECT
Service Action: Replace the Engine Breather Line (Connecting Line)
MODEL
E70 (X5 M) with S63 engine
E71 (X6 M) with S63 engine
SITUATION
The Service Engine Soon lamp can illuminate with various misfire or mixture adaptations faults stored in the DME memory. The vehicle can also
run roughly due to a failure of the engine breather line (crankcase ventilation hose), resulting in an induction system vacuum leak.
CAUSE
The crankcase ventilation hose plastic material can become brittle and break.

CORRECTION
Replace the crankcase ventilation hose with P/N 11 15 7 595 188.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves E70 X5 M and E71 X6 M vehicles which were produced from March 1st, 2009 to April 1st, 2011.
In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action or Recall Campaign completed or is affected by this Service Action, first
check the B-pillar label for code number 617. If code number 617 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number
617 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader.
Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the engine cover as per Repair Instruction E7111S63 "Removing engine cover."
2. Release the quick disconnect connections (1) and replace the Labor operation code 00 60 820 is a Plus labor operation. crankcase ventilation
hose.
3. Reinstall the engine cover as per Repair Instruction E7111S63 "Removing engine cover."
PARTS INFORMATION
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 617. After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-403) and:
A. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
B. Punch out code number 617 (2), printed on the label; and
C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on

top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
