Rattle from the Lower Tailgate
MODEL
E70 (X5) produced up to December 9, 2009
SITUATION
A rattle may be heard from the lower portion of the tailgate when driving over rough roads. In addition, a wear mark may be evident on the lower
tailgate trim, approximately 3" inboard of the lower tailgate striker.

CAUSE
Hard contact between the outer edge of the loading edge panel and the lower tailgate trim. The loading edge panel is the plastic panel that covers the
lower tailgate hinges when the tailgate is in the open position.
CORRECTION
Install a thicker felt pad.
PROCEDURE
^ Replace the existing felt pad with the specified thicker part.
^ If the lower tailgate trim panel is damaged, it may be replaced per Repair Instruction REP 51 49 090.
